About the Aloha Health Community Leaders

Joyce Kenney, President of the Randolph/Maymont Tenant CouncilMiss Kenney is a lifelong resident of Richmond and has been an active community leader for over 30 years. She was formally President of the Mosby Court Tenant Council before assuming her current position. In addition to her duties as tenant council president, Miss Kenney is active in the health and wellness activities of the Fountain of Deliverance Baptist Church. A devoted mother, grandmother and grand grandmother, Joyce Kenney works tirelessly to guide the growth and development of her grand and great grandchildren. Miss Kenney is committed to and an active community leader who works every day to assist Aloha Health bring into care residents of Richmond who are most in need.
Reverend Frank Curry, Associate Pastor of the Fountain Baptist ChurchA retired career civil servant Reverend Curry is active as a senior programs in the City of Richmond. He regularly speaks on health and wellness topics during Sunday services at the Fountain Baptist Church. As part of his church health activities Reverend Curry annually organizes community days where residents enjoy health food, can take advantage of free flu shots and enjoy other program activities. Reverend Curry has supported and works tirelessly with Drs. Seely and Boatwright to carry out Aloha Health nutrition, health education and intake activities.

Skip Long, Principal of the Church Hill Academy (CHA) Skip Long is an ordained minister who directs both the educational programs of CHA and outside of family strengthening activities. The success of his and the work of other faculty and staff is shown by the fact that over 98% of students graduate with most attending college or career technical training. CHA has carries out an after schools program and on for young children which involve more than 200 youth.
Nataniel “Jay” Pollard, President of the Richmond KougarsFor the past 15 years Jay Pollard has committed himself to the positive grow and development of the youth and families living in Whitcomb, Fairfield and Mosby Courts. His is always working to keep youth busy doing positive things and ensuring their success. A star high school basketball player in his youth, Jay Pollard tirelessly works to raises funds needed for both girls and boys to participate in AAU and other sports leagues and tournaments.

Miss Towles has lived all of her life in Richmond. She is active in her church and has a zeal to do good for her community and helping residents better their lives which is matched by few others. She is the impetus for organizing community days for youth and adults, partners with the VCU Rampantry to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables to residents, among so many Courts health and wellness ensures are carried out. A devoted mother and grandmother, Joanne Towles gains great pleasure in helping to raise the youth members of her family.

- Senator Mark Warner who directed the following to one funder: "I ask that you give the (AH) proposal every appropriate consideration".
- Congressman Dave Brat urged foundations "to give the Aloha Health multi-year project full and fair consideration" for funding.
- Jim Beckner, Executive Director of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, stated to funders his hope that they "will act favorably upon the request for funding for the Aloha Health initiative." He went on to say that "I know working together we can successfully address this tragic and costly health problem."
- Cardiologist Dr. Michael Kelly, after a lengthy discussion with Dr. Joseph Boatwright about the nature and intent of the Aloha Health project, said "I'd like to ... express my enthusiastic support for the whole concept and for funding requests to implement the (AH) project."
- Marilyn Olds, President of the Richmond Tenants' Organization expressed the strong support RTO has for Aloha Health by stating that "RTO recommends funding the (AH) project because this initiative will penetrate environments of low income residents and will provide them medical services they need but are not receiving at the present time."
